When buying a horse, it’s crucial to ensure transparency and peace of mind with a pre-purchase examination (PPE), also known as a vetting. PPEs are often required by insurance companies, and different policies may have varying requirements. There are two main options: a two-stage or a five-stage vetting, which assess the horse’s condition at rest and during exercise. Blood samples may be taken for future reference, stored at Horse Forensics Laboratories, Newmarket, for six months.

If the vendor is an existing client of Lingfield Equine Vets, we encourage you to employ an independent veterinary practice to undertake the vetting. This prevents any potential for confusion in communication between all parties.

Our vets will ring you prior to the vetting to give us an opportunity to ensure we fully understand your specific needs and requirements for the horse. This is particularly important if you are not able to be present at the vetting appointment itself.
